Introspection
Introspection
Taking pride in being the world’s largest democracy has defined our identity for decades. But, concerning ourselves with whether we are a functioning democracy has been less of a priority. A glance through post-independence history of India will shine light on the fading vigor with which we pursue democratic principles in politics today.
Ideation
For positive commitment to democratic values, idealism of the young is crucial. It is to the merit of the establishment to adapt that idealism and mould it into pragmatic models of growth, alleviation and governance. Insofar as idealism declines, then this reduces popular pressure for clean politics and better governance. So it is safe to assume that the key to sustaining a functioning democracy is creating a conducive political environment for generational influx.

Within a democracy, participation, a key ingredient to seeking accountability in a regime, should be kept at an optimum to ensure that the system does not deflect from its cardinal commitment to Constitutional rights.
In order to achieve such optimum, it is imperative that there is a generational continuance in participation. For a system to respect diversity, exhibit empathy and be malleable to the needs of the people it serves, it becomes critically important to keep citizen participation as the fulcrum.
Vision
This forum is an effort to understand how to develop a working system that facilitates positive generational influx into politics. Can the young of India be exposed, educated and encouraged to engage with democratic political processes? Not as mere spectators or online warriors, but as real representatives and crusaders of this democracy.
